Needing some help in understanding directions. :)

Hi everyone.  I am busy working on a pattern which is new to me and for some reason I just don't understand what the directions are telling me for this next round.  I figured just tat it like the pattern says and it should look like the picture, but there are words which I can't seem to grasp right now.
The pattern is from the book Tatting Patterns and Designs by Gun Blomquist and Elwy Persson and it's on pg. 66 a doily named Coppelia.
Round 3 is what I am concerned about.  They have the pattern stitch numbers and then add a side note which is concerning me(maybe needlessly).
Any help will be greatly appreciated!!!  :)

I would like to help but I don't have the book. Hope you get a reply soon. If not, just go with your instinct.

I remembered this doily from years ago when someone else on one of the lists had the same problem. I think the text lost something in the translation. ;-)

The fourth row doesn't fit evenly over the third row as it is based on a multiple of three rather than a multiple of two. If you look at the photograph at the final round at the approximately 10 o'clock position, you will see where they "fudged" by joining one ring into the base of two round 3 rings rather than joining into the chain picots as all other joins are made.

I do hope this helps. ;-)

link above has a lovely photo.

I think I may have found the pattern on line in a book 'preview'.

What is your question?

If you're going to be able to finish the row 4 evenly distributed (so that it is not a too much or too little sections), you must count (make) 3 pattern sections. The last row counts to 3 instead of 2 (as the second row does).

Do as the pattern says, I think it'll work out by itself. Good luck!

I´m from Sweden, so I hope you understand what I mean! (The same country as the authors :) /Nina

The last row counts to 3 in a sektion, instead of 2 as the second row does.

Do as the pattern says. And look at the picture. I think it'll work out by itself. Good luck!

Hope You understand what I mean! I´m from Sweden... :)

Lelia, that picture is awesome. As Erin says about the picture in the book where they "fudged" the join of one ring, I noticed that in that wonderful picture link you sent me the tatter followed the example in the book so I guess that is what I am to do. :) (maybe I will have to make a picot where that fudge is so it won't be quite as noticeable, but then again, I didn't notice on either till Erin pointed it out. :)

I have the book and can see that while workng Round 4 -hens and chicks - they pulled out an extra receptor picot from one chain of round 3 (no doubt the last chain as they were approaching the end of the Round 4.) The same thing was done on the beautiful color doily in pinterest, around 6 o'clock.

Apparently mathematically, the hens and chicks motif needs one more receptive picot on one chain of round 3, and it was easier to pull out a picot and fudge it! (Or you could insert a 3rd picot on one of the chains on round 3.)

I agree that those instructions are totally confusing! I'm sure they didn't want to admit the fudge! I have to say that the doily is gorgeous in Vineyard Harvest, and I doubt I'd ever have noticed the 'fudge' unless I tried tatting it!

Thank you Kathy! I have finished the 3rd round and I actually added the extra picot to the first chain so that way it was what I call an anchored chain. I hope I can do well with the last round. My 3rd round seemed really tight and I have stretched it and am hoping that when I get to the next round it will have sat enough not to shrink it too much, and then I fear it will have to be blocked into submission, but as long as it turns out I am ok with that. :)
