Blue Coaster which isn't blue :D

I truly love how this came out!!!
I decided to experiment with the quilting thread and my size 40 Lizbeth.
I was thinking that if I used the quilting thread for the chains that the Lizbeth thread would make it thick enough to work well.  Nice thinking, but it didn't work out correctly since if I would use the Lizbeth for everything then it would all be doubled since you wrap it around itself then.  Well, that meant a little re-thinking.  So...I doubled the stitch count for the chains and it seems to have worked pretty well.  While tatting the 2nd round I thought it wasn't going to work cuz' it was warping the shape of the center, but I finished it and it cupped a bit, and I stretched it a little and it laid beautifully so I continued with the 3rd round and here it is.  I love it!!  It's about 3 1/2 inches across.  :)
Oh....the pattern is Blue Coaster from the Big Book of Tatting designs by Darlene Polachic.

Another quilting thread motif in a different color

Here is another motif from Tatting Patterns and Designs by Gun Blomqvist and Elwy Persson.  It's Star #2 from page39.
It's tatted in another quilting thread.  I think I really like this colorway!!!  I have to figure something else to tat with it.  :)  Oh, I don't believe it's tatted correctly.  I followed the pattern, but the picture seems to have the center all joined to one picot and the center chains joined too.  Oh well, I like it the way it is.  :)

Trying some HWT(hand wound thread)

Wanting to do something different.  I decided to try some HWT and tat something.
This was a combination of 3 threads-2 quilting threads(pictured below) and a size 80 DMC green which I received from Lace Lovin' Librarian-Diane.  I am not crazy about the color combo, but it makes me think of autumn leaves on green grass.
Here are the 2 quilting threads I used.
Here is the combination of the 2 quilting threads without the green in a motif from the book Tatting Patterns and Designs from Gun Blomqvist and Elwy Persson page 41 star #2.
Here are my pictures from Tollway Tatters....
 Barbara and Carrie tatting.
Marilee and Gwen(please forgive me if I have the wrong name here) tatting.
 Diane at lunch time.  :)
 Carol, Sue Anna, and Marilee.
Marilee's fabulous tatting!!  :)
And just so the Tollway Tatters know that I made it home to get that extra large batch of sloppy joes done, here is a picture:
That is a 7 or 7 1/2 quart slowcooker filled to the top.  It went fast too!!  :)

Tiny Spinning Wheel Glass Mat

I bought some new thread(not exactly thinking when I bought it).  There are 15 spools of variegated threads.  I wanted to try it and found out that it is quite small.
This is where I purchased it.

I tried tatting some size 100 and the same pattern in the quilting thread and I found out it is smaller than the size 100.  Below is the picture of the quilting thread in variegated red, orange, yellow, on top of the Rainbow Bright size 100.
Of course, then I had to tat something real with it.
This is Mary Konior's Spinning Wheel Glass Mat from Tatting with Visual Patterns.
It's just under 3 inches across.  It is ruffly and needs blocking(thankfully the scanner held it in place).  The thread was a bit tough to work with since the stitches were so tiny and when picking out errors it weakened the thread lots and so it broke several times when closing rings that were re-tatted.
Other than that, I really love the color!!!!!!!  Any thing I tat with this is going to be small, but I think it will make some pretty motifs(can't wait to see the other colors tatted up).  :)
