Another test tat

This is another Elaine P. Gan design.  It is a necklace pendant.
It's tatted in size 40 Lizbeth Boysenberry Dk. with tiny gold beads.
In the picture the thread looks like it has white on it or in it, but it doesn't.  I believe it's the scanner light causing that look.  Otherwise, this looks so elegant and amazing!!!  :)
I started a new doily.  It's pretty basic, but it's large and I am hoping to have it done for my mother-in-law and her husband for Christmas this year.
I also have a question for the experts...... the doily I wanted to do is in the book Traditional Tatting Patterns edited by Rita Weiss.  It's on pages 36 & 37.  I want to tat the large doily(which is slightly hidden in the picture by something sitting on top of it, but even with the small one I have a question for both.  I would like to tat this with 2 colors so that the star will be one color and the rest of the doily another, but since the star is tatted in small sections throughout the doily I can't seem to figure out how(or if) this can be done.  I hope I explained this well.  If anyone knows the answers please let me know.  Thank you all very much!!!  :)
Have a wonderful day and happy tatting to those who get the opportunity to tat!!!  :)

Elaine sure has some pretty patterns!

I've never tatted this pattern, but it looks like the outline of the star is created by rings and the rest of the doily is chains. So, wouldn't you be able to use two shuttles with the different colored threads to get the star effect?

Sorry I don't have the book so I can't help you.
Lovely pattern and looks an interesting pendant.

Lovely pendant. I hope you can get an answer to your question from someone who has the book.

Your pendant is lovely! I'm about 1/2 way through mine :).

As for the doily, is there a diagram? If not, you might have to roughly draw it so you can see which parts are part of the star. This should make it easier to restrict the star parts to certain colours. Hope that makes sense! Looking forward to seeing pics of it :).

Thank you everyone for the comments on the pendant. Thank you to everyone who has tried to help with the "star" in the doily.
Diane, I was thinking the same thing, but if I could get the chains that are "bordering" the rings of the star then I think it would stand out more.
Jenn, the picture of the doily is black and white so I assume it's quite old and there are no diagrams. Thank you for your suggestion!! :)

You've certainly been doing a lot of great tatting! And Elaine Gan is designing like crazy! I'm sure she appreciates your help and you always do a great job!

I forgot I had this book, and it certainly has some lovely patterns, but the old-time instructions give me chills! No doubt a drawing will answer your questions!

However, just doing the drawing would take a lot of patience! The old writing style (and printing) makes my hair stand on end, with all the rounds running together and not on separate lines. And the print is SO tiny!!! Fortunately it can be enlarged these days! I'm sure this pattern is not as complicated as it looks!

There are many neat patterns in the book, especially the baby bonnet, the Party Time doilies and the Fairy Ring doily. Wonderful classic style patterns, plus lovely edgings. Unfortunately we'll never know who the designers were! But at least Rita Weiss brought them out of the dust bin!

Perfect tatting for another wonderful pattern ! I love overlapping chains & you have executed it all so perfectly & evenly !

I have Rita Wiess' other book - are there any common patterns or parts thereof that might be of help ? Or we could ask the question on Craftree where there might be a better chance of getting an answer ?
