My husband wants a lanyard without beads. I know him so I figured it has to be something strong to withstand some abuse. I chose this design: http://www.georgiaseitz.com/2014/interlockingringshow2.html
the red and white on the right side of the 2nd picture in the post.
Well, I wanted to start and end with a larger ring and then just tat the split rings(which looked like it would be easy, but proved me wrong). I tried the first sample a week ago, and I just tried the second one today. Neither good!! I guess I am going to have to find something different.
I made my own stitch counts, the first large ring is 40ds, and in the second attempt it is only 30ds.
the split rings are all 10/10. At least my rings look good to me. It's practice, what can I say!! :)
Are you posting the one pair of shuttles through the previous SR as you go along or are you interweaving them when they're all finished? I prefer the first method but that's because it's the way I learned first!!!!
ReplyDeleteThat is a design that takes a lot of concentration, but once you get it, it is a terrific piece of tatting. I’m certain you will manage it as beautifully as you always do!
ReplyDeleteHi Jane, I did put the shuttles through, but for some reason I can't get it the same and even.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the encouragement Fox!!! :)
Ah, then it's probably down to practice and concentration like Fox says!!! All I can say is - carry on trying!!! It's worth it in the end although what you've done so far doesn't look far off to me.
ReplyDeleteI found that with my limited experience with lanyards, it will take a few trials to get the stitch/pattern correct. Oh and they do need to be about a yard long but measure on your body where you want things to be attached. Looking forward to your progress.
ReplyDeleteThank you Jane!!! :)
ReplyDeleteThanks Bernice!! :) That is the way I am measuring how long to make it because it's for my husband. :)
I'm sure you'll figure it out. You've done some amazing designs in the past, so this should be fairly simple... right?
ReplyDeleteThanks Diane!! :) And I thought it should be fairly simple, but for some reason my mind can't get it(crazy huh??). :)
ReplyDeleteI like what you are doing and know you will get it right, but I would use size 8 or 3 thread but that is just a guess maybe I would like to see what it would look like in that size :)
ReplyDeleteThanks Madtatter80!! :) I went with size 10 thinking it was quite large and it would be ok for a guy. I tried something different tonight and it didn't go anywhere, so I guess it's back to trying this again. :)
ReplyDeleteYour tatting is neat! You could use the way I do it, tat one set of split rings and then interweave it into the other set of split rings as you tat it - up one split ring then close, down the next split ring and close.
ReplyDeleteHope you manage to get it right, I know it took a bit of practice when I did one, I found before I closed the ring I put the other two shuttles though the split ring. I know I saw a good turtorial from "tipsaroundthehome". Mad tatter,

ReplyDeleteIf you think he might like metal rings - here is a lanyard that uses tatting and metal findings. [skipping the florals - he might like something like it]
I think whatever you do will be perfect for him!!!
Thank you Jane!! I have considered that now since I just failed a third attempt. :)
ReplyDeleteThank you Margaret!! :) I do put the shuttles through, but am still having troubles.
Thank you Lelia!! :) I am going to look that up!! :)
I'm sure that the third sample of the lanyard is going to be perfect :-)
ReplyDeleteThanks Ninetta!! :) But it failed too. I decided to try something of my own which I have seen similar samples of(not as lanyards though). :)
